Your children are happy movers
and learners in Physical Education. We have just completed a successful
first unit on Cooperative games and activities. Throughout the past five weeks
the students were; challenged to work with a variety of students from their
class, learn how to communicate effectively with others in their small groups,
work with everyone in the class at least once, be respectful and encouraging to
one another, and to be challenged by a wide-range of new activities. One
of the most enjoyed activities of the unit was, Crossing the Raging River,
which had students work in small groups to try to cross the "river"
using only a limited number of poly-spots (rocks) to cross the river. The
students had to come up with a strategy and communicate with one another to
successfully cross the river as a group. The students found success after much
trial and error, but it was clear students thoroughly enjoyed this challenge!
The students also participated in an activity called, Medley Relay, which was a
game that involved many locomotor movements. These activities were just a
snapshot of what was taught during the Cooperative games and activity unit. We
had great first few weeks of getting to know each student, and we look forward
to continuing to have another successful unit.
Beginning the month of October,
we will begin the
Parachute unit. The Kindergarten through grade 2
will be introduced to Parachute activities and games. Parachute is one of the
most widely known and loved activities for this age group. We will be teaching
the students a wide-variety of activities focused around the Parachute. Your
child will have the opportunity to use his or her creative mind during this
unit.
We look forward to continuing to
get to know each and every student. Feel free to contact us if you have any
questions or concerns. Thank you for helping us to have successful Physical
Education classes.
