Many New Faces

It's been so wonderful to meet so many families and all of your wonderful children this week.  Thanks to everybody who was able to make it to the playground playdate and also for being so welcoming to Emily and I as we travel around Montpelier making visits to your home.  I've enjoyed learning more about each of your families, getting to know your child, and most importantly beginning to build our classroom community of learners.  I look forward to continue to meet each one of you and your families over the next few days. Reminder...open house tomorrow in the classroom from 3:30-4:30.  We will see some more of you before this and then look forward to completing home visits on Friday.  Remember, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

Updates and Reminders

I hope you’re enjoying these last days of summer and are looking forward to the start of school for your child. Below is a quick reference list of things you will need to have for kindergarten. You do not need to send in art supplies as these will be provided for your child. Throughout the course of the year, check out our classroom blog wishlist for items that could be donated. Some things listed below are in preparation for our Educating Children Outdoors (ECO) program where the children will be engaging in our Vermont Framework of Standards through outdoor exploration. More information will be coming about ECO, outfitting your child for this wonderful experience, and dates that we will participate in this outdoor learning.

At our playground playdate on Monday, August 25th (4:30-5:30) there will be a chance to sign up for a “home visit”. We will meet on the Upper Playground. Final phase construction of the UES roofing project, and repairs to the play structure are in progress on the Kindergarten playground. Home visits are available on August 27th, 28th, and 29th. At these home visits, I will have a chance to get to know your child better and you will have a chance to ask any questions you have about kindergarten. Please be sure to sign up!

Please let me know if you have any questions and don’t forget to keep checking the blog!  Or, drop me an email to say hello! jillc@mpsvt.org

Welcome

Hello!

Placement for Kindergarten students for the 2014-2015 were sent out earlier this month. I hope you're reading this blog post because your child is in my class!  I welcome you again to our class community and look forward to meeting and getting to know you, your family, and most importantly, your child.

I use the blog as a communication tool for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends. Almost everything your child does at school will be posted here for you to view. Please use the blog to help spark conversations about your child's day and to help solicit information from them. You will see many posts from last year below. I will be leaving these on so you can explore and experience a little bit about what to look forward to in the next two years. (All children's pictures have been granted permission by a parent..I will be asking the same of you before I post pictures. No names are ever connected to the photo!)

On the side bar, I will post important dates and events so please use this as a calendar, too! You will see some important summer dates listed already. I also try and always post a poll question...so if you're already reading this, please feel free to submit your answer. In addition, you are more than welcome to write comments on the postings. If you need any specific info about your particular child, feel free to email, as these postings are public.

I am currently spending the summer with family and working on Block Island and have included a few pictures below of my summer 'vacation.'  Stay tuned for a sneak peak of the classroom on the blog in just a few weeks!

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know your child. See you at the Kindergarten playdate on August 25th! (If I don't recognize you, PLEASE come introduce yourself..my picture appears on the blog heading!)  I have been hearing from a number of you about conflicts during the scheduled family visit times and will do my best to work with you to find a time that works for all.  We will have a sign up for you during the playground playdate.

In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have - jillc@mpsvt.org.
