As you may have heard, soccer games at first grade recess time (before lunch) is taking a break. After weeks of working through various issues that arose during play with recess supervisors, excel staff, classroom teachers, and parents, the Recess Supervisors have determined that students need a little break from the game. It is really difficult to manage with little adult supervision at this 1120 recess. Students are giving kickball a try. I'll keep you posted on how this is going. During smaller recess' where just our class and maybe a few other classes are outside, students are welcome to play soccer. I am able to monitor this game and help support students directly. Last week, we had the majority of our classmates working together to play. How exciting this game turned out to be. Students showed cooperation and empathy as they helped teach novice players the basic rules of the game - kick the ball into the net! What a great group of kids we have!
