Students need to become fluent with numbers past 100 by the end of the year. Recalling numbers before and after a number, counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's, counting backwards and forwards from a variety of numbers and so much more! Each day we tie counting exercises into our day, play games, and sing songs. Today, students rainbow wrote various numbers that they had to guess - if a block was covering 111, and you couldn't see it, how do you know it was 111. Many other games were played using a number chart, a cube and a box of crayons. Students use the colors of the rainbow to color in a variety of numbers after counting and recalling the number. Much fun is had to develop number sense fluency (fluency referring to recalling the numbers quickly and efficiently).
