Counting Days

This week, we are focusing on counting - not just forward, but backwards, by fives, and by tens.  Students are beginning to see patterns in their counting as they use a 100's mat and a "counter" to move across the numbers.  Using this mat not only helps children see patterns but also helps to reaffirm numeral recognition.  Children often get the order of numbers easily mixed up so seeing numbers throughout their day helps build their visual memory.  Visit the blog page to see examples (videos) of the children counting in action www.misscloster.blogspot.com (for those of you who receive this post via email!)  INQUIRE with your children what tricks them up the most when counting backwards.
