First Day

What an amazing first day of school we had. I promise, all tears stopped upon entering our classroom! We began our day (and continued throughout) learning all about our classroom routines, school rules, and about each other. Students began the day with a morning meeting and had much fun singing and doing the activity, "Hop and Stop" and singing " The More We Get Together."  INQUIRE with your child what the activity required them to do! We also greeted each other, shared news from friends, and read our morning message. Each day, we'll begin the day doing these activities!

Many times today, we had the opportunity to explore the playground (luckily, the rain held off!), play with new friends and at the same time, reunite with pre-k buddies!  Students are looking forward to the return of the structure.  Cross your fingers!  To your right is M.J. our P.E. teacher who stopped for a chat while on the playground.

Snack time is always fun, as is lunch! It's a great time to learn teacher "stop, look, and listen" signals. INQUIRE with your child what some of these are! Hint...chime! We eat snack in our classroom and lunch in the cafeteria. Although this is a great time to socialize, we learned it's just as important to concentrate on munching down milkweed...oh wait, I mean our lunches! (We do walk in a "caterpillar" line, however, we'll stick to turkey sandwiches for lunch!) More pictures of these times to come!

This morning we had our first "special" and traveled to the library to meet Mrs. Frye and learn a little about how to put away books when we are finished.  In the upcoming weeks, students will begin to check-out books.  Be on the lookout in the next few weeks!

In addition to reading and writing workshop (more details to come later), students chilled out during "quiet time,  and of course, we had "center time." Sometimes, your child might be calling this centers, however it could often be referred to as any of the following: centers, choice time, or playtime. INQUIRE with your child which center they chose today and what friends they played with!
