P.E. update....and HOMEWORK!

We have had a fantastic start to the New Year in Physical Education class! We have just completed the throwing and catching unit. The lower grades (k-2) learned fundamental steps of throwing and catching various objects. There were many highlights to these units, including watching students develop confidence in their understanding and execution of various basketball skills. We also saw huge gains in confidence and abilities in the lower grades with their throwing and catching abilities.

In the month of February we will begin a winter/ fitness outdoor activities unit with all grades. The classes will be spending their time either at Harrison field or traveling to the college green on East State Street.  The students will be participating in a variety of fun, educational games that will include snowshoeing, obstacle courses, snowball target toss, and snowman making challenges. We want our classes to enjoy and benefit from the beautiful Vermont winter weather we are having. If the weather is looking questionable at all, classes will be held indoors and students will participate in cooperative games and activities.

Throughout this unit we will continue to talk about burning calories, cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, and other important components of fitness.

Parents and guardians please have your students come prepared to be outdoors for their Physical Education time. As always, Parents and Guardians are welcome to come and participate or watch their children in action! If you plan to do so, please just let us know in advance.

You will find on the reverse of this newsletter that was sent home a February calendar with daily health/physical activities that we encourage you to participate in with your child! We challenge all parents and children to do at least one physical activity a day! Please check off each box that your child completes and return to school at the end of February!

Have a fabulous February!

Sincerely,
Emmanuel Riby-Williams and Marie “MJ” Jennings
