Publications
We are coming to the end of our writing unit on personal narratives and getting ready to publish our first first grade story. This week we began editing work on a single story children chose from their Writer's Workshop collections. Writers Workshop lessons this week have focused on editing - fixing up words we've underlined and need to return and spell correctly, checking & fixing up punctuation and capitalization. Most importantly, we've been using a key reading skill as writers - re-reading and asking ourselves, "Does it look right?" "Does it sound right?" "Does it make sense?" Children authors have also been adding on pages in the middle of the story or the end as they think is needed to make the story more interesting to read. Peer partner reading for editing help or just another perspective has also been an important focus - fun too! We will join Mrs. Wrigley's class for a publishing party on Friday. Children will partner up with one another and read their published books to a peer in Mrs. Wrigley's class. We will celebrate our combined hard work with a popcorn party together when finished reading. INQUIRE with your child what his/her story is about, and what they want to finish working on so it is ready for publishing tomorrow!
