Check for Understanding...how?

Sometimes, when we check for understanding while reading, we are unsure about what we just read. This happens to people of all ages.  We often get distracted, are unfamiliar with vocabulary, or get stuck on decoding.  To ensure we know what we are reading, the students have been learning how to back-up and reread after meaning is lost. After backing up and re-reading, students check again for understanding.  This is an important strategy students are practicing in the classroom this week.
